Andrew Scott met with the London newspaper, The Times while Andrew was promoting a tv show last November. Scott was asked about my upcoming book, Andrew Scott: More Than Moriarty. Andrew responded that “it’s too early” for a book about him, stopping short of saying there should not actually be one at all. Seeing the title of the book in a prestigious newspaper like The Times was thrilling. You can’t get much better publicity than that. However, there seems to be a perception afoot about what type of biography it is that is not correct and needs to be clarified.
I don’t want to mislead potential buyers into thinking they’re going to get a muckraking tell-all of some sort. They’ll be sadly disappointed. Andrew has not lived long enough yet for a true personal biography. It would be pointless to delve into his life since he’s only 36 years old and as far as anyone can tell, has not lived a scandalous life or one that merits analysis. But, next year Andrew will be in his 20th year as an actor. That’s a long time and not many actors make it that far. Considering he’s in his prime right now, in my opinion, it’s a good time to assess where Andrew’s been. And where he may be headed.
Andrew Scott: More Than Moriarty is almost entirely about Scott’s work from the early days to the present. A great deal of it interpolates articles from my column, the National Andrew Scott Examiner, including some which Andrew answered questions for at his own suggestion, beginning in late 2011. At that time I offered to postpone the book if he had any objection. He stated to me – as he stated to the London times reporter – that he felt the time wasn’t right yet. I agreed with him. He was not particularly well-known.
Since then, Andrew has won a BAFTA award for his signature role as Moriarty. He has also won an IFTA, the Irish award, for the same role. He has a new agent in America with all the attendant opportunities open to him. Fans clamor for information about Andrew Scott, their favorite actor. To withhold that information serves no purpose. For those interested in more of a personal biography about his life, this book is not for them. It does contain some background information, of course, but that isn’t the main purpose. This is for actors and others who are amazed by Scott’s talents and want to know more about how he got to the point that he has in his work. Andrew Scott: More Than Moriarty, is for them.
