Andrew Scott as a child actor in an ad for Flahavan's porridge (oatmeal)

If you can imagine the cuteness of Andrew Scott as a pre-teen read on.

The very first professional acting gig Andrew Scott (aka) Moriarty ever did was as a little boy in Dublin for a television commercial. It's hard to believe that big devil was once a little devil, isn't it? Although, it's pretty likely he was more of a little angel in the spot for the Irish breakfast food company, Flahavan's. The commercial and accompanying promotional ad for a tracksuit they were offering is a flashback to the 80's when people were starting to get into jogging and fitness. Even little guys like the cute, approximately 10-year-old Andrew we see here were into it, apparently.

The good folks at Flahavan's in Waterford, Ireland searched into their archives when I inquired if they could confirm Andrew Scott was the kid in the commercial which I had learned doing research. Dolores, my contact, kindly checked through the old files. I told her his probable age and the year and she asked me to send some early photos of Andrew, if I had any. I sent back a couple of him as a teenager in his first film, 'Korea,' for her to check against. Though they didn't keep names on their records, Andrew's looks hadn't changed much since his childhood. Dolores was able to match him up with the photos I sent her and emailed me back to ask if I thought it was the same person. As soon as I saw the commercial I had no doubt. He even moved the same way, and he picked up his spoon in his left hand, as would lefty Andrew.

Flahavan's can say they knew Andrew Scott while he was still a sweet little boy and not yet the evil Jim Moriarty. Although - shades of the future - at the end of the commercial, he gave the girl playing his little sister a slight shove after she pulled a workout towel from around his neck. I'm sure it was in the script, of course!

The quality of the video is somewhat grainy and degraded so Flahavan's asked me not to use it. I was given the OK to post the print advertisement which came out at the same time. The man and boy in tracksuits is similar to the filmed ad.
