Andrew Garfield captures "the essence of Peter Parker", said Stan Lee

This summer, Andrew Garfield is about to make his own spin succeeding Tobey Maguire as The Amazing Spider-Man, but the actor is already receiving rave reviews from one critic: Stan Lee, the co-creator of the web-crawler, who will celebrate his 50th anniversary later this year.

"I am Tobey Maguire's biggest fan" he told Access Hollywood's Scott "Movie" Mantz at this year's Sundance Film Festival.  "He's talented, he's the nicest guy in the world, nobody could have done a better job on 'Spider-Man' than he did.

"But Andrew Garfield brings his own charisma to this role and he's as good as Tobey was.  I think people are going to love him.  He doesn't imitate Tobey, he does his own version of it."

Like Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy, The Amazing Spider-Man is a dark reboot of the superhero franchise that marks the birth of young Peter Parker (Garfield)'s transformation into becoming the web-slinger, who must learn that with great power comes greater responsibility.

"Just as Tobey was the essence of Peter Parker, so is Andrew Garfield" Stan stated to Lee.  "You'll love it!"

The Amazing Spider-Man comes out July 3.
