Andrea Bargnani trade rumors have been around nearly the entire NBA season. Now a Bargnani trade by the Toronto Raptors may not actually happen after all. According to a report from late Wednesday night (Feb. 20), Raptors general manager Bryan Colangelo has been unable to find the right fit.
While there are certainly teams that would like to acquire Bargnani, it seems like most rumored scenarios have either contracts getting dumped on the Raptors or only role players being offered. Toronto doesn't want to just give away their former No. 1 pick and there is no reason to doubt that Bargnani cannot return to form by next season.
The market for a Bargnani trade just doesn't seem to be what it once was and that could be because of his rough season. Due to some nagging injuries, he has played in only 27 games for the Raptors this season. Through Wednesday's games, Bargnani is averaged only 30.3 minutes, 14 points, and 3.8 rebounds per game. Those are his worst numbers since his second season in the NBA (2007-08).
While there are still Andrea Bargnani trade rumors out there, it is really starting to look like the Toronto Raptors might hold on to him right through the NBA trade deadline. A deal could be revisited in the offseason, when his value might start to go back up, but right now it doesn't look like the Raptors have a winnable trade scenario.
This might be bad news for fantasy basketball owners, because Bargnani is now coming off the bench for the Raptors. His value is as a starter in the NBA and a trade might have put him back in the starting rotation somewhere. There is still a chance the Raptors start him again soon, but his fantasy value has dipped even lower recently.
