The Dutch violinist, conductor, and composer, Andre Rieu is returning to the United States and Canada with a new show. The tour starts in Orlando, Florida on March 7 and ends in Vancouver, Canada on March 20. Rieu will be traveling to a total of twelve cities and will be performing in Los Angeles at Nokia Theatre L.A. Live on March 14, 2013. His Los Angeles Concert will be part of Rieu’s international “And the Waltz Goes On” Tour, named after his successful album for which he collaborated with Sir Anthony Hopkins.
Rieu is best known for creating the waltz-playing Johann Strauss Orchestra. For this reason Rieu is known as the “King of Waltz”. This orchestra began in 1987 with only 12 members and now performs with between 80 and 150 musicians. Rieu and his orchestra have performed throughout the world and in addition to winning a number of awards including World Music Awards, the Johann Strauss Orchestra have gone gold and platinum in many countries.
Rieu is one of the best selling live acts in the world. Billboard ranked his 2011 tour as the 9th highest grossing tour of the year. He has broken all classical concert records, performing for more than 700,000 adoring fans each year. Rieu has sold over 32 million albums globally and received 330 platinum awards for his albums.
While playing with his 1732 Stradivarius violin and conducting his 60-piece Johann Strauss Orchestra, Rieu’s concerts are spectacular with a very jubilant atmosphere. As Rieu once described, "Every night when I play around the whole world, I see with my own eyes what the waltz does with the audience.
