Andi Dorfman ‘Bachelor’ showdown: Is Andi Dorfman revolutionizing reality TV?

Andi Dorfman’s “The Bachelor” showdown on Monday with Bachelor Juan Pablo Galavis seems to indicate that it is time for a revolution on reality TV. Andi Dorfman is not only “hot,” as some men might describe her, but she is also extremely smart. On Monday night, “contestant Andi Dorfman, an ombre-haired assistant district attorney from Atlanta, took known-homophobe and former soccer pro Juan Pablo to task,” reported the Huffington Post on Feb. 26, 2014.

For those who are unfamiliar with ABC’s “The Bachelor” show, Andi Dorfman was one of the female contestants supposedly “desiring” to be wooed by Bachelor Juan Pablo Galavis. But the image of women as presented by the reality TV show appears to have clashed with reality.

Andi Dorfman’s “The Bachelor” scene on Monday night has certainly something to do with that. Andi Dorfman is a 26-year-old assistant district attorney with the Fulton County District Attorney's Office in Georgia who actually dumped the 32-year-old Bachelor Juan Pablo Galavis after having spent the night with him in a fantasy suite on the Caribbean Island St. Lucia.

"I think he thinks he was a very good Bachelor," said Andi Dorfman to host Chris Harrison, and added that the American-born Venezuelan former professional soccer player is “borderline narcissistic to the point where he was going to go down as the best 'el bachelor' in history."

As Andi Dorfman points out, it’s not that Bachelor Juan Pablo said something wrong that she couldn’t get past, “it was him. I was turned off by him." she says. According to Andi, who many suspect will be the next Bachelorette, Juan Pablo is “just your run-of-the-mill, selfish, sexist prick” who likes to talk about himself and has not much interest in who she was as a real person. “I want to die if I have to hear 'it's OK' one more time," Andi told Juan Pablo.

Andi Dorfman’s “The Bachelor” move of ending the relationship before Juan Pablo had a chance to do so, and the fact that ABC allowed it, “is damn near revolutionary in the ‘Bachelor’ world,” writes the Huffington Post. Did Andi Dorfman expect too much from a reality TV show when she wanted to be seen as a “real” person or is she merely highlighting what many TV viewers already feel. It's time for a revolution, it’s time to bring some reality into reality TV -- or leave it.
