Four-time NHRA Pro Stock champion Greg Anderson, currently tied for seventh in points with reigning champ Allen Johnson, is looking for improvement early in the 2013 NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series season, and Auto Plus Raceway at Gainesville – home of this weekend’s Amlie Oil NHRA Gatornationals – might just be the track he finds it at.
Anderson, a two-time Gatornationals winner, and his teammate, four-time Gatornationals champ Jason Line, will have their work cut out for them, however – Anderson believes the competition level in Pro Stock is at an all-time high.
“There are just so many good cars out here that you are going to have to find a way to be very, very good on the tree, or it will be really tough to win out here this year,” said Anderson. “Pro Stock is tougher than ever, and we’re continuing to work on finding the consistency and performance that we know we will soon have with our Team Summit Camaros. It’s very important that I do my job as a driver.”
In the season’s first two races, Anderson has an opening-round loss in the Winternationals at Pomona and a semi-final loss at the Arizona Nationals – a small improvement, but not enough for Anderson. “We aren’t happy with getting to the semifinals,” said Anderson. “We want our Summit Racing Chevy Camaros in the final round. We have to become more consistent so that we can make that happen. The bottom line is that we need to find some more performance.”
Pro qualifying for the NHRA Gatornationals gets underway on Friday, March 15th at noon and 2:15 p.m. ET, and continues on Saturday, March 16th at noon and 2:15 p.m. ET; eliminations begin Sunday, March 17th at 11 a.m. ET. Stay up-to-date with the NHRA Gatornationals at www.nhra.com.
