Long known as a destination for beautiful beaches, killer surfing, and incredible encounters with nature, Costa Rica is not a new choice for tourism. However, as one of sophisticated travelers' favorite hotel brands is slated to open an uber-cool property there this December, the Costa Rica experience will indeed be new and improved.
Andaz Hotels, Hyatt's luxury boutique brand, are known for their sense of sophistication and indigenous charm. They weave the distinct culture of their locale with the style and sensibility of its residents, and make for a truly unique experience.
Once Andaz Peninsula Papagayo opens its doors on December 20, 2013, travelers to Costa Rica can expect the unexpected. Here's what to look forward to:
Sitting on 28 pristine, oceanfront acres, the property's design was inspired by the shapes of nature and the culture, flora, and fauna of the area. 153 rooms and 21 luxury suites include features such as ocean views, woven textiles, walk-in rain showers, and more. Highlights of the hotel include an 11,000 square-foot spa, two pools, a kids club, and three restaurants (including an adults-only option). Extra-special feature: hassle-free check-in that's uncomplicated and easy, meaning the vacation begins immediately.
The Cultural Insiders
The Andaz brand is committed to promoting and celebrating local culture. At Andaz Peninsula Papagayo, guests can live the culture firsthand through several Cultural Insider experiences. With Cultural Insider: Surf, guests will receive a "How to Surf Costa Rica" guide created for the hotel by twin brothers Alex and Mike Faherty, who've been surfing the local waves since they were 12 years old. Full day surf excursions will be available, as will an on-property Surfer in Residence program, and a surfer-chic Faherty brand pop-up shop.
For art lovers, Cultural Insider: Art brings the street-art-and-graffiti-inspired work of native Costa Rican Salvador Odrec to the sexy space. On exhibit throughout the hotel will be 15 of Odrec's critically-acclaimed paintings.
Finally, Cultural Insider: Music will feature a music experience curated exclusively for the hotel by world-renowned music stylist/DJ/record producer Jared Dietch. Inspired by the diverse and natural sounds of the region, the music experience at the hotel will be like nothing heard before.
With the goal of embodying the "pura vida" (pure life) mentality, and the buzz that's been generating throughout the world of travel aficionados, expectations are high for this hotel that's sure to change the face of Costa Rican tourism.
