Maui, Hawaii is said to be paradise. I recently visited for the first time, and I have to agree! Maui is tranquil with beautiful beaches on both sides of the island and lush greenery in Kapaula. The places I stayed were exceptional and the food was out of this world. I will share with you in a series of articles the places I visited that are definite winners and worth experiencing.
The trip started at Andaz Maui at Wailea. The beautiful hotel is by the Hyatt organization, but the Andaz boutique style hotel is all its own. The hotel has an intimate feel, luxury without the arrogance. Upon arrival you are greeted with a beautiful lei, a special drink and fresh pineapple. Upon the entry way and before the lobby, you are surrounded by crystal water on both sides and have a stunning view of the ocean front and center. The lobby is spacious, open, designed to show off the Pacific and all its beauty. Instead of the traditional front desk, guests are greeted by individuals with iPads. This is a wonderful place to call home for a few days.
The rooms are nice with an exceptionally comfortable bed. My room looked upon the ocean from the right side of the room and patio. The bathroom is fantastic, with a sit down vanity area, and a clear glass shower that divides the room. The room has a contemporary feel, and with the bags delivered it was time to check out Andaz Maui.
There are a variety of lovely pools to choose from, including an adult only pool. We headed down to the Bumbye Beach Bar at Andaz for a cocktail and lunch. They source local ingredients and it shows. The lobster grilled cheese sandwich is mouthwatering and decadent. It is the best lobster and cheese mixture I have ever tasted. The bread was crisp and the gooey cheese with perfect with a solid amount of lobster within it. The waffle fries with Kahlua pork, cheddar cheese guacamole and ranch dressing was sensational. The dish hit all the spots of salty, sweet, crunchy and spicey.
It is hard to believe we could move after that, but we did and continued down to the beach. The weather was perfect; sunny with a slight breeze. The beach is great for walking, playing volleyball or just hanging out.
Dining was a treat at Andaz Maui. Morimoto Maui was remarkable. With an 8 course-tasting menu, we actually ordered an extra dish. From Toro Tartar, Kampachi Carpaccio, and FoIs Gras Chawan Mushi the dishes were electric, beautiful and delicious.
Breakfast at Andaz Maui is special at Ka’ana Kitchen, which features a bounty of farm fresh foods accompanied by specialty coffees. The buffet serves eggs, fresh fruit, smoked salmon, island specialties and much more. You can also order specific dishes such as the Kahlua Pork Benedict, or a Hawaiian Bento Box. The restaurants at Andaz work with the freshest ingredients from local farmers, fisherman, and dairies.
You can also get complimentary professional photos taken at or around the hotel and the first photo is free. Pacific Dream photography took a variety of photos to choose from. The quality is sensational and it is nice to have such great a Maui memory.
There is do doubt when returning to Maui in Wailea that Andaz Maui will be my destination. When going to Maui at Wailea, do your best to stay at Andaz Maui for a once in a lifetime experience. They have suites and condos that are first rate. If you are unable to stay there, eat there as often as you can! www.maui.andaz.hyatt.com
Scuba diving is exceptionally clear and beautiful in Maui. The colorful fish, giant sea turtles and coral with baby sharks are all for your viewing pleasure. Yes, you have to get up very, very early to take part, but it is worth it. Prodiver Maui Scuba provides exceptional service. They are safe and passionate about scuba diving. They know exactly where to take you so that you have your own little area. You can go in a group, as a couple or with a guide. I highly recommend a guide to get the complete experience of the different diving areas. Exceeding your expectations is what they are all about.
In addition to stellar fruit cocktails and hanging at the beach or poolside there is zip lining through the forest. Skyline Eco-Adventures is the original Maui zip line. There are five lines with over 90 ft drops. Swing across a bridge and through eucalyptus trees on the slopes of Haleakala. www.zipline.com/maui
Maui is an exotic sensation of all the senses. More Maui magnificence to come…
