For those of you who weren't following along as LA TV Insider Examiner live-Tweeted the 62nd Annual Primetime Emmy Awards earlier tonight, what were you thinking?? We started with the red carpet, offering snarky commentary on everything from the obvious fashion choices to Ryan Seacrest's on-camera interview skills. Then as the actual award show kicked off, our commentary turned much more celebratory as many of our favorites and predictions came out winners.
Starting with the pre-taped opening musical number that host Jimmy Fallon created to semi-pay homage to 19-nominee glee, the award ceremony got off to a very fun and festive start. He compiled the cast of the hit musical comedy-- including nominees in their own right Chris Colfer, Jane Lynch, and Lea Michele-- as well as old friend Tina Fey, new friends Joel McHale, Nina Dobrev, and Jon Hamm, and the random (Kate Gosselin) to sing and dance to an original song.
Throughout the night he continued the musical theme-- it was very popular this year!-- Fallon trotted out his acoustic guitar during both introductions, walking up and down the aisles, as well as hopping behind a pink piano on stage for a tribute to shows we loved and lost this year. Fallon, who got his big break on the NBC sketch comedy late night show Saturday Night Live was known for impressions and original songs back then, and he still gets to show off his skills on his own late night talk show. It's just nice to see his talents be honored in a bit more of a mainstream way.
Another stand-out moment was the Modern Family/Family Guy cross-over skit that featured a very special surprise celebrity cameo by Bob Hope Humanitarian Award winner George Clooney!
