A tight race mixed with plenty of emotion by the stellar actresses, Anne Hathaway stands holding the golden statuette. Her performance in the musical Les Miserables had the power of straining faces with smiles while staining with tears. The race for Best Supporting Actress had amazing performances filled with twists and turns, but the vocals helped push Ms. Hathaway over the top.
Anne Hathaway beat out the likes of Jacki Weaver (Silver Linings Playbook), Amy Adams (The Master), Sally Field (Lincoln), and Helen Hunt (The Sessions).
The nomination for Best Supporting Actress marks Anne Hathaway’s first win and her second overall nomination for acting. Her performance in Rachel Getting Married garnered a nomination for Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role. This nomination came at the 81st Academy Awards ceremony in 2009. At the event, her opponents were Angelina Jolie in Changeling, Meryl Streep for Doubt, Melissa Leo in Frozen River, and the winner Kate Winslet for her performance in The Reader.
After the nominations were announced, each actress had proven worthy of winning the award. Although with the powerful performance from Ms. Hathaway, many felt it had her named etched at the base of the Oscar!
