I know I'm a bit late, but I just had to comment on one of the biggest fashion events of the year - the Oscars! As Gabourey Sidibe so aptly put it, "It's like Hollywood prom." Indeed. Let's take a look at some of this years prom queens (and king).

The winners:

While the best picture winner was a bit of a shock, the fashion was not. Most of the ladies kept it straightforward and simple, avoiding any fashion risks (which could result in fashion fails). I was a bit disappointed that no one opted for the equivalent of a wearable swan, but there were a few standouts, regardless. My all-time fav look of the night? The one fashion risk of the year - SJP in Chanel Haute Couture. She looked drop dead gorgeous and she opted for something other than an ordinary evening gown. And come on, it's Chanel. You can't go wrong. Who else did I love? Diane Kruger (also in Chanel), Sandra Bullock (Marchesa), Amanda Seyfried (Armani Prive), Carey Mulligan (Prada), Demi Moore (Versace Atelier), Cameron Diaz (Oscar de la Renta), and last but not least, Meryl Streep (Chris March - the Project Runway alum). Of course, I can't go without mentioning one of the most dapper men of the evening (who also dressed many other similarly polished men)...Tom Ford. Genius, genius, genius. Bravo!

The um...well, losers:

Sorry, Penelope. I love you, you were FAB in Vicky Cristina Barcelona, but no. You looked like someone had wrapped a Merlot stained sheet around your body. In fact, you might want to talk to Donna Karan about that. I'd bet you one of her guest rooms might be missing some bedding. Anna Kendrick could have picked a more flattering color - the girl looked majorly washed out. Maybe Edward Cullen had her as an afternoon snack? As for Miley Cyrus, I thought the dress was pretty, but someone needed to tell her to stand up straight. I wanted to love what Nicole Richie wore (Reem Acra), but it was a bit old ladyish. There's always next year.

Well, there ya go! All in all it was a good night. Oh, and props to Steve Martin for those stylin' glasses. Great use of an accessory.
