Every morning in Africa, a gazelle wakes up.
It knows it must outrun the fastest lion or it will be killed.
Every morning in Africa, a lion wakes up.
It knows that it must run faster than the slowest gazelle, or it will starve.
It doesn't matter whether you're a lion or a gazelle
when the sun comes up you'd better be running.
Another week of Jamie's challenge and I am astounded. Her body fat is down to 26% percent and her current weight is 200lbs. She is religious about her plan. I spoke to her earlier this week but only for a moment; it was getting late and with both know that her program is dependent on strict adherence to her schedule. A gazelle she is!
We've learned a lot about Jamie. She has shared her training schedule and eating plan as well as some of the challenges life has presented. This week, she talks about those what inspires her.
In her own words:
My inspiration…this has been a tough question for me because I try to be very down-to-earth and look for people who are “everyday heroes.” I think a lot of celebrities and athletes get too much credit because let’s face it- when you have a gigantic bank account, you can do a lot more than the people like me who are working hard every day to make ends meet. So, I guess I have three primary sources of inspiration.
1. My grandmother was always a huge inspiration for me because she always wore a look of determination and tenacity. She never let people know when she was down or hurting because she didn’t want to be cumbersome to others. She was fierce and determined as well as selfless and wise. My grandmother passed away last November after dedicating her life to service and the well-being of others. I wear a necklace of hers each day as a constant reminder of her strength as a woman and an every-day hero.
2. My training partner Amanda completely inspires me. Like me, she is an “independent woman” who has to balance this fitness challenge, a high-stress career, and fulfilling all responsibilities solo. She has been in the trenches with me every day, and she always has words of encouragement any time that I feel doubtful, tired, irritable, etc. This is NOT easy, and having her to go through this with is invaluable!
3. It inspires me to know that I have a chance EVERY DAY to inspire other people, whether it be in the gym, in the classroom, at the job, or on the basketball court. I love that people tell me they have started working out because I have inspired them or motivated them to step it up. I feel like it’s so important for kids and adults even to have positive role models, and stepping up to this challenge makes me view myself completely differently. I feel like I’m really modeling the “you can do anything you put your mind to” cliché (smile) and showing people that hard work and dedication is generally always a recipe for success!!!
Jamie, your dedication to others and to your goals are inspiring! You GO girl!
