Most people would agree that dreams are a normal part of life. But, can dreams be a supernatural experience?
“Yes,“ says author, Michael L. Mathews, in his new book, “And God Chose Dreams.”
“And God chose dreams to manifest himself through as He knew the man-made efforts of humanity would require divine intervention to allow individuals to see past man’s feeble efforts to gain salvation,” says Mathews.
Like the ancient Patriarch, Joseph of Egypt, Mathews has the gift of interpreting dreams and visions. The Lord has raised him up to equip His last days disciples with the knowledge and tools necessary to operate in His gifts of spiritual dreams and visions.
God speaks in dreams today
According to Mathews God speaks to the human race today, just as He did anciently. His book gives references to all of the dreams recorded in scripture, as well as modern day dreams.
The Bible verifies Mathews’ statement through the record of many dreams given by God to the ancient patriarchs, prophets, and New Testament apostles and disciples of Jesus.
And God Chose Dreams educates the reader on:
- the spiritual application of dreams
- interpretation of dreams
- overview of dreams
- benefit of dreams
- outcome of dreams
- lessons learned from dreams
Fulfillment of dreams
Mathews explains that some dreams are fulfilled immediately and give us insight for a pressing situation, while other dreams are not fulfilled for years. Joseph, who was sold into slavery by his brothers, eventually saw his dream fulfilled in every detail, but not for many years.
Genesis 37:5-11
- 5. Now Joseph had a dream, and he told it to his brothers; and they hated him even more.
- 6. So he said to them, “Please hear this dream which I have dreamed:
- 7. There we were, binding sheaves in the field. Then behold, my sheaf arose and also stood upright; and indeed your sheaves stood all around and bowed down to my sheaf.”
- 8. And his brothers said to him, “Shall you indeed reign over us? Or shall you indeed have dominion over us?” So they hated him even more for his dreams and for his words.
- 9. Then he dreamed still another dream and told it to his brothers, and said, “Look, I have dreamed another dream. And this time, the sun, the moon, and the eleven stars bowed down to me.”
- 10. So he told it to his father and his brothers; and his father rebuked him and said to him, “What is this dream that you have dreamed? Shall your mother and I and your brothers indeed come to bow down to the earth before you?
- 11. And his brothers envied him, but his father kept the matter in mind.
Scripture references
The detailed insights into Biblical dreams that Mathews provides is enlightening and revealing for those seriously interesting in understanding their own dreams. Some examples of these are:
- A Covenant Creating Dream between God and Abram, Genesis 15:12-18, pages 37-38.
- King Solomon receives divine wisdom, 1 Kings 3:5-15, page 64-66.
- Joseph is admonished to marry Mary, Matthew 1:18-25, pages 93-95.
- Joseph warned to escape to Egypt to save Jesus’ life, Mathew 2:1-23, pages 95-99
It is easier for some people to believe that God spoke to a few special people thousands of years ago, than to believe He would speak to the average person living today. Yet the Word of God declares that He is no respecter of persons.
“Then Peter opened his mouth and said: “In truth I perceive that God shows no partiality.” Acts 10:34 (Deuteronomy 10:17, Galatians 2:6, 1 Peter 1:17)
Prophecy fulfilled
Mathews bases his book on the premise that the Bible is inspired truth, and that spiritual dreams are a fulfillment of prophecy. He presents much evidence to support his statement that the spiritual dreams people are experiencing today are a sign of the last days.
Acts 2:17-21 (Joel 2:28-32)
- 17. And it shall come to pass in the last days, says God, That I will pour out of My Spirit on all flesh; Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, Your young men shall see visions, Your old men shall dream dreams.
- 18. And on My menservants and on My maidservants I will pour out My Spirit in those days; And they shall prophesy.
- 19. I will show wonders in heaven above And signs in the earth beneath: Blood and fire and vapor of smoke.
- 20. The sun shall be turned into darkness, And the moon into blood, Before the coming of the great and awesome day of the LORD.
- 21. And it shall come to pass That whoever calls on the name of the LORD Shall be saved.’
Endorsement
And God Chose Dreams is highly recommended for all dreamers. It is rich in encouragement, hope and inspired insights. This book will help every member of the body of Messiah understand that God is speaking to you, and preparing you to uniquely serve in His work of transforming the world into the Kingdom of God.
“When God stated that all of creation would be waiting for the manifestations of the Sons of God; He specifically declared and proclaimed that all of His people would be used to reveal Him - not just ministers; no one was excluded. It’s time for the Church and ministers to release the sons and daughters of God,” says Mathews.
