Anchorage now has an all girl band in the rock scene. "Fortis Era" is a grunge rock band comprised of Sarah Bartko (drums), Heather Scholz (Vocals, guitar), Maria Garcia (lead guitar), and Catherine Liguori (bass and sitar...Yes she plays an electric sitar).
The band has been playing shows for approximately two months and has been together since January. Next month (July 9th) the girls are opening for national acts "Lit" and "Eve 6" at The Rock in Wasilla.
In case you might think that these girls are simply a novelty think again. They have a powerful raw sound reminiscent of "Nirvana" or Anchorage legends "Kill Tango" (in fact 3 of the 4 "Fortis Era" members are former "Kill Tango" members).
Aside from the July 9th show "Fortis Era" is scheduled to play June 24th at Platinum Jaxx with "Saturday Sleeper" and then July 25th at the Brown Bear Saloon in Indian with "Sunbury" and "Art of Treason"
