Rob Morrison, a news anchor for WCBS-TV, was arrested on Feb. 17 for allegedly choking his wife during a domestic dispute at the couple’s Connecticut home, according to a Feb. 18 New York Times report.
Police said on Monday that the news anchor was arrested and charged with strangulation, threatening and disorderly conduct. He was reportedly released on $100,000 bail and is scheduled to appear in Superior Court in Stamford, Conn., on Feb. 19.
Morrison and his wife CBS MoneyWatch reporter Ashley Morrison have since issued a statement through the couple’s attorney, calling the charges “greatly exaggerated.”
“Rob and Ashley Morrison are cooperating fully with the authorities to insure that all of the information necessary to properly evaluate this unfortunate incident is made available,” the statement said.
The New York Times reports that police officers arrived at the couple’s Connecticut home about 1:30 a.m. on Feb. 17 after receiving a call from Ashley Morrison’s mother. “Upon arrival, it was ascertained that Morrison had been becoming increasingly belligerent toward his wife during the course of the evening, culminating in his choking her by the neck with both hands,” the Darien Police Department said in a statement. Mr. Morrison threatened further harm to his wife while he was being arrested, according to police reports.
Rachel Ferguson, a spokeswoman for WCBS, said the station would not comment on Mr. Morrison’s arrest, “because this is a personal matter.”
