Alferez Joseph Martinez Guajardo is a paternal eighth great-grandfather. He was baptized Aug. 24, 1668 in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico. The baptism record is worn and damaged, with some information missing, but the document reads as follows when translated into English:
“1668 baptism of Jose Martinez Guajardo de la Garza in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico. He was the son of Jose Martinez Guajardo and Nicolasa de la Garza. His godparents are Ag[?] de la Vera y Clara de la Garza.”

His earliest known paternal ancestor is his great-grandfather, Juan Francisco Martinez Guajardo, who died in Mexico in 1607. His earliest known maternal ancestor is his third great-grandfather, Marcos Alonso, who was born in Spain in 1525.
On Sept. 20, 1693, Alferez married Margarita Gutierrez in Monterrey. She was baptized in Monterrey on June 23,1675.
Alferez and Margarita had 12 children between 1695 and 1720, when both of them were well into their 40s.
