On Friday, Senate Leader Harry Reid (D) told the American people that he believes the Tea Party Movement is comprised of Anarchists that are trying to destroy the federal government.
Reid made that statement in a powerful speech on the Senate floor last Friday. This strategy appears to come directly from the Democratic Party traditional playbook to create bogeymen to scare the American people into rejecting the political opponents of the Democrats. In this case, "Anarchist" appears to be the new "racist".
Since 2009 the Democrats, with the help of favorable media, have successfully conflated Tea Party Member with racist in the eyes of many Americans. They unleashed this strategy with vigor in 2010 after the Tea Party Movement had great electoral success in Washington and in smaller elections around the country. Since they appeared to be losing the ideological battle, the Democrats turned to their ace in the hole strategy - demonize their opposition.
Based on Reid's comments, it appears that the Progressive/Democrat coalition must now believe it is losing momentum and needs to find a new bogeyman. In the Friday speech, Reid was able to use Tea Party, Anarchist, and "wealthy people" in one complete sentence, which is a transparent attempt to lump all of their favorite bogeymen together. President Obama is also willing to employ the bogeyman strategy when it suits his political needs. Last week, the President went after a private corporation, FOX News, in the same manner that Reid went after the Tea Party Movement.
Will this bogeyman strategy work? It is the go-to strategy of the Progressives because it is very effective. They return to it often. Whether it is effective will be determined in part by how the Democrat Party-controlled mainstream media spins the strategy, and whether alternative narratives get equal expression. It will be interesting to see how the Sunday news shows cover this development. Some of us will be watching.
