Analyst: ‘World’s biggest console launch’ bodes well for the future of the PS4

As if being labeled as the “world’s biggest console launch” wasn’t enough praise, one analyst believes the early success of the PlayStation 4 indicates a strong future for the Sony system, according to a report today from VG 24/7.

Reported first by Shack News today, analysts DFC Intelligence said the PS4 will be the best-selling system of this next generation, though it likely won’t reach the heights of the Wii or the PS2.

"The initial success of the PlayStation 4 bodes well for its future," DFC Intelligence said. "The PlayStation 2 and Wii went on to be the best selling console systems ever. DFC Intelligence does not believe that the PlayStation 4 will surpass those systems but reiterates its forecast that the PS4 will be the No. 1 system of this generation.”

The remarks come just one day after Colin Sebastian, analyst with Robert W. Baird & Co., estimated that Sony has sold through 500,000 more PS4 units than Microsoft with the Xbox One.

Microsoft did announce this week that the Xbox One had reached the 2 million units sold mark since it’s launch in mid-November, though DFC thinks that the next-gen console’s appeal will mostly be “limited to a core demographic,” aside from its “all-in-one” features.
