Analyst dismisses white Xbox One rumors, Microsoft ‘dumb’ if console is released

While wholly dismissing the rumor that Microsoft will be releasing a 1 terabyte white Xbox One without a disc drive for retailer in the near future, one analyst believes if the platform-holder were to launch such a next-gen console that they would be insane so do so, according to a report today from VG 24/7.

Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter, in an industry note, said that if the rumors of the infamous white Xbox One surfacing for retail consumption were true, the Microsoft would be making a huge misstep.

“If this rumor is true, it is one of the dumbest ideas of all time,” Pachter said.

If Microsoft offered the white 1 TB Xbox One without a disc drive for $399, Pachter maintains it would not only alienate retailers like GameStop and others but it would also cause a stir among consumers who purchased a $499 model with a Blu-Ray drive and 500 GB hard drive disk.

“That would likely cause gamers to believe that the model with a Blu-ray drive is overpriced, or would cause them to believe that Microsoft is greedy,” Pachter said, putting the potential ploy into three words: “Dumb, dumb, dumb.”

For the record, however, Pachter said he doesn’t believe the rumor of the white Xbox One to be true.
