It comes as little surprise following the launch of both Microsoft and Sony next-gen consoles Xbox One and PlayStation 4, but last saw the best hardware sales of any November in the history of the video games industry, one analyst told Games Industry in a report today.

Liam Callahan, analyst for NPD Group, said that the PS4 and Xbox One launches coupled with strong sales from Nintendo with the 3DS combined to create the best November for hardware sales on record.

“With the introduction of the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, coupled with positive sales for the Nintendo 3DS, sales in November 2013 marked the best November for hardware sales on record,” Callahan said.

On the whole, the hardware segment of the industry rose 58 percent to roughly $1.327 billion and the strong sales of the Xbox One, PS4, and 3DS helped the industry as a whole increase by 7 percent to $2.74 billion.

The 3DS alone has had an uptake in sales of 15 percent in 2013 through November, Callahan said, supported by “strong content throughout the year,” like The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds.

With the strong sales in November –– roughly 770,000 units–– Nintendo announced the 3DS had surmounted the 1 million sold mark in North America. You can read that full Examiner report here.
