Here is my second of 10 previews and predictions on the SEC bowl games in college football this season including the BCS National Championship.
My season record going into the bowl season is 96-18 (84%).
Autozone Liberty Bowl
Mississippi State (6-6) vs. Rice (10-3)
Dec. 31 / 4 p.m. / ESPN
Liberty Bowl Memorial (62,506) / Memphis, Tenn.
Series History: Rice leads, 1-0
Last Meeting: MSU 28-14 (1975 Houston) (Win later forfeited by NCAA)
VegasInsider Point Spread: Mississippi State -7
Vinny’s Vibe: Rice is the Conference USA champion for the first time school history. Rice QB Taylor McHargue is the first quarterback in Rice history to lead his team to consecutive bowl games. Rice beat Air Force 33-14 in last season’s Armed Forces Bowl. Rice is a run-oriented team. The Owls are #16 in the nation in rushing (240.2). Rice defends the pass well. Mississippi State has won five out of its last six bowl games. MSU is making its fourth consecutive bowl appearance for the first time in school history. The key for the Bulldogs is a healthy Dak Prescott playing at his best. I think the four-quarter wear-down of Rice at the line of scrimmage will be the difference.
Mississippi State 31 Rice 24
