According to Stacie Anaka's twitter account, Canadian high performance wrestler Stacie Anaka thanked Canada's Minister of State for Sport Bal Gosal on Sunday for his support to her during the 2013 wrestling season.
On Friday, Anaka of Burnaby, British Columbia won the silver medal for Canada in the women's 67 kilogram division at the 2013 World Wrestling Championships in Budapest, Hungary. Anaka defeated eventual bronze medalist Ochirbatyn Nasanburmaa of Mongolia 3-2 in the round of 16, then trounced Gozal Zutova of Azerbaijan 9-1 in the quarterfinals before beating Zhou Zhangting of China 8-6 in the semi-finals.
In the championship final, Anaka lost 5-2 to Alina Stadnik of the Ukraine.
Anaka won one of two medals for Canada at the 2013 World Wrestling Championship. The other came from Jessica MacDonald of Windsor, Ontario, who won a bronze medal in the women's 51 kilogram freestyle event on Wednesday.
Anaka and MacDonald, who won a gold medal at the 2012 World Wrestling Championships in Edmonton, are medal contenders in women's wrestling for Canada at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
