An update on Reese, severely neglected dog rescued from high-kill SC shelter

This is an update on Reese, a hound who suffered unimaginable neglect before ending up at a high-kill upstate shelter. Reese was rescued by Carolina Loving Hounds earlier this month, and may not make it.

Reese during a vet visit

The story of her leaving Greenville County Animal Care Services, well known for its high-intake, high-kill, can be found here on Examiner.

Reese is being cared for in Columbia, South Carolina. Her situation at this time is sad, as her foster is providing hospice care at this point.

Manuela Ela Schafer is making what could be Reeses' final days into loving memories. Manuela praises Carolina Loving Hounds Rescue saying

"Angela from the Carolina loving hound rescue is a blessing for Reese . She would have been put down in that cold shelter all alone. Reese does not deserve that! I am glad I am being her final stop"

When rescued, it was hoped Reese would recovered enough to undergo heartworm treatment. Unfortunately, as of Friday, Reese is showing symptoms of progressive heart failure.

While she may only have days or weeks left, Manuela is loving on Reese, showing her that not all humans are like the ones responsible for her condition.

Please keep Reese, Manuela and Carolina Loving Hounds Rescue in your thoughts. They also still assistance with her vet bill.

You can donate at or you can call in a donations to her doctor in Columbia, SC . Dr. Van De Grift 803-254-7354.
