Breaking News:

August 6, 2011, [Mogadishu, Somalia]

29,000 children have died in 90 days.

Tens of thousands more Somalians have starved to death in what the United Nations is calling the worst humanitarian crisis of the year. The catastrophic drought and civil unrest escalate in the African country. A million people are reportedly at risk, 500,000 children included.

The World Food Programme is asking for global help,  for the magnitude of the crisis is daunting.  They need a projected $342 million to help feed 11.3 million people in Somalia, Kenya and Ethiopia, reports the AP.

The UNHCR is asking for a small donation of $7, which provides therapeutic food for a malnourished child.

If you cannot donate money you can also help in this manner:

http://FreeRice.com  is a non-profit website run by the United Nations World Food Programme.

It provides several different types of learning games to play and learn. For each correct answer, rice is gathered to donate to the hungry. It’s free.

It has two goals:

  • Provide education to everyone for free.
  • Help end world hunger by providing rice to hungry people for free.

This is made possible by the generosity of the sponsors who advertise on the site.

Whether you are CEO of a large corporation or a street child in a poor country, improving your education can improve your life. It is a great investment in yourself.

Perhaps even greater is the investment your donated rice makes in hungry human beings, enabling them to function and be productive. Somewhere in the world, a person is eating rice that you helped provide.

Read more about it by visiting the site. Free. All you have to do is get in the game.
