An open letter to young military IRR members, guards, and reserves

Dear comrades in arms,

We are a generation apart, yet we have many similar stories. Many of my generation went to the jungles of Viet Nam to fight and die for our nation. Many of you have fought in the deserts of Iraq and Afghanistan. You have seen your buddies bleed and die as a result of enemy action. You came back, and hold your head high, because you fought honorably for Old Glory against an often dishonorable enemy.

Old Glory, the American Flag, is just a banner of cloth, with red, white, and blue fabric sewn together. But it is much, much more that. It is a unique emblem that is symbolic of all that America was and is and hopes to be. For us who are or were in Uniform, it represents our great Republic, and our Constitution, which we swore an oath to protect and defend, against all enemies, foreign and domestic.

Now, we have looming on the horizon, proposals by pompous politicians to effectively nullify that most important provision of the Constitution, the Second Amendment. Some propose to halt sales of AR-15 Rifles to citizens. These semi-auto versions of your M-4 Carbine have been vilified as if they are evil incarnate. Some propose to limit magazine capacity to some arbitrary amount. New York has actually outlawed magazine capacities greater that seven rounds.

Some of these politicians are proposing to go beyond halting sales of these firearms and accessories. They are proposing confiscation!

If these proposals become law, and the Government decides to enforce them, I predict there will be tremendous non-compliance all across the nation. If one percent of the citizens who are estimated to own guns absolutely refuse to comply, that amounts to something like 800,000 to one million households that Government agents will have to visit.

There are not enough Federal agents to begin to undertake that task. They would need a tremendous number of auxiliary agents, trained in arms, to complete the task . . .

Would they call you to active duty for such 'domestic pacification'?

Would they order you to go door-to-door to confiscate weaponry, like the British attempted to do on April 19, 1775?

Could you, in good conscience, follow such unconstitutional orders, then claim the Nazi superior orders defense?

How long would you last?

Let me know your thoughts . . .
