Two sets of husband and wife teams will host panels during Undead Con 2 at the Chateau Bourbon in New Orleans. One of these married teams, Cynthia and Mike Arsuaga, will be part of the Authors Forum panel on Saturday, October 29, 2011, from 1:30 – 3:30 pm.
I asked the couple to tell Examiner.com readers a bit about themselves, and to please divulge insights on their writing relationship. Cynthia replied with some interesting details on writing with her husband Mike, the New Orleans horror writers convention and their June 2011 co-authored novel release.
Per Cynthia Arsuaga, “My husband and I are both published authors of adult paranormal romances. We're attending and will chair a panel at the Undead Con this Halloween in New Orleans. For the most part, we write separately, collaborating to edit each other’s manuscripts. An exception is My Life as a Dog, the story of shape shifter Drake Martin who transforms into a Yorkshire terrier instead of the usual wolf, large cat, or bear. His animal persona is a double edged sword. Not worth much in a fight, he goes places larger and fiercer colleagues can't, and he's irresistible to women.”
Mrs. Arsuaga continued, “Most of the tale is set in New Orleans. As a native of New Orleans/Jefferson Parish, Mike's knowledge of the area and customs contributed to the novel's authenticity. We wrote MLAAD in a light-hearted tone.”
Also set in New Orleans, Undead Con 2 is a production of Anne Rice’s Vampire Lestat Fan Club (ARVLFC). President Sue Quiroz runs the event. Cynthia discussed how she and her spouse became a part of the convention.
“Mike and I became involved with the Undead Con quite by accident. I am a member of quite a few blogs and Yahoo chat groups for authors, publishers, and readers. One late night, I was involved with a particular chat with someone in England and another reader in the chat room mentioned she would be attending the Anne Rice Vampire Ball in New Orleans. Well, that piqued my interest. Mike was born and raised in New Orleans, and we both write about vamps. One thing led to another and we were invited to sit on a panel. We are looking forward to networking with other authors and readers during the event.”
Look for a review of My Life as a Dog to be featured on Examiner.com New Orleans Literature in the coming weeks.
