The National Weather Service has issued an Ice Storm Warning from 9am to midnight tonight, Friday, December 6th, 2013.
A major winter weather event is expected to develop over the Clarksville area today as temperatures this morning hover around freezing and are expected to drop throughout the day today. This with precipitation over running the cold air, rain is expected to fall over the region and freeze on contact with the surface. Freezing rain will mix with sleet this afternoon and ice accumulations of a quarter to a half an inch are expected to accumulate. This will be enough ice for some tree limbs to fall and power outages to occur. Bridges and overpasses are expected to freeze first as far as the roadways are concerned, but slick spots are expected overnight tonight on all surfaces.
Temperatures will remain cool this weekend as highs tomorrow will be in the lower thirties. Another round of wintry weather is expected Saturday night as another round of freezing rain is expected to have an impact Sunday morning. Once again, ice accumulations of a tenth to two tenths of an inch are expected before temperatures warm enough to change the freezing rain to a plain rain. The rain will end as a period of ice and sleet overnight Sunday before skies begin to clear overnight Monday.
