The serene palm-lined path led up to the St. Andrews Country Club in Boca Raton, Florida, and gave us a reason to raise our champagne glasses on the evening of Thursday, April 10, 2014. Once again it was time to celebrate all the outstanding accomplishments of the Achievement Centers for Children & Families and the generous fundraising efforts that took place to support the exceptional work done for local children and their families on a daily basis.

The 6th Annual Proper Affair brought plenty of focus on fashion, fun and merriment along with highlighting a very worthy cause. The ballroom was filled with fashionable people and many of the exquisite fashions that local popular retailer, Boston Proper, is known for, were worn very stylishly by a number of the guests. The socializing took place first as attendees enjoyed gourmet hors d'oeuvres such as Ahi Tuna Tartar in a savory crisp cone, Peking Duck pancakes, miniature sirloin beef sliders, raspberry and brie flatbread and much more. Flowing champagne and wine accompanied the tasty treats. Live music by RStyl provided the entertainment, energizing the audience and preparing them for what was yet to come.

In a far corner of the room, silent auction tables were set up where guests could bid on their favorite packages which included a chance to win some of the favorite looks from the fashion show that was about to hit the runway. A variety of choices to bid on included gift cards, spa and pampering packages, beauty baskets filled with goodies, restaurant certificates, getaways, stylish totes and much more which spread over a few long tables. The bidding was open for almost the entire evening and year after year it continues to contribute to the success of much-needed funding for the Achievement Centers for Children & Families. Also given away as part of the events of the evening were raffle prizes of an Islamorada Vacation Escape, Disney Orlando Passes for 4 and a David Yurman ring. One lucky winner walked away with the door prize of a Martini Set compliments of Blue Martini.

The evening got into full swing with the arrival on stage of Abigail Goodwin, Executive Director of Achievement Centers Foundation. She gave thanks to the generosity of all the sponsors that donated for the event and especially Boston Proper who makes this event possible every year. She was proud of all the great work that the Center is doing to help kids in the community and as an effort to show the attendees just how far they have come, she introduced the Achievement Centers' Drumline & Creative Dance team. Kids of all sizes were far from shy as they took their places and beat the drums. They got the audience tapping their heels and swaying their hips. The dance team performed a new take on the Spanish flamenco routine with their own unique style. This was the perfect lead-in to the highlight of the evening, the Boston Proper fashion show.

The audience cheered as tall, lovely models appeared on stage one by one in some of the newest trends for the season, all available at Boston Proper online and in their two Palm Beach County stores in The Gardens Mall and Boca Town Center Mall. Lace is making a feminine arrival and that was evident in tops, dresses and sweaters. The atmosphere of the jungle comes to the city with the jungle maxi skirt. Career dressing is extraordinary in the spotted sea sheath dress. The crochet salsa sweater is a great piece for those cool summer evenings and is a perfect match with pants or a skirt. A top-seller at their stores, Boston Proper brought us their popular Parisian jacket in white paired with jeans. Of course the show would not have been complete without some of the resortwear that South Florida is customarily known for. From a hand-beaded tunic to the 'must-have' crochet and lace top, this fashion show had something that every woman needs and desires. What made this year more special than previous years were the models that came right out of the pages of the Boston Proper catalogue and the introduction of the Boston Proper design team whose collections continue to target the independent and confident soul in all women.

The continued collaboration of Achievement Centers for Children & Families and Boston Proper is an accomplishment to be proud of and each year, record amounts are raised to help those in the community that need it the most. Our congratulations for a successful 2014 Proper Affair go out to Sheryl Clark, President of Boston Proper along with her hardworking team and Abigail Goodwin, Executive Director of Achievement Centers Foundation and her hardworking staff. A big applause is in order for all the individuals who participated in this great event.

We will see you next year!
