The spring and summer of 2014 will see a number of musical performance firsts in Israel.
The Rolling Stones will perform in Israel for the first time ever in Tel Aviv on June 4, an Israeli tourism commissioner announced this week. Also announced this week is the opening at Jerusalem’s Tower of David Museum of “Ah, Jerusalem!” an English-language musical that will be performed beginning April 15.
The Rolling Stones will perform at Tel Aviv’s Hayarkon Park.
"We are thrilled to announce the first-ever performance in Israel by one of the most influential musical groups of all time," said Haim Gutin, Israel Commissioner for Tourism, North and South America, "which further adds to an already dynamic lineup of performances and festivals taking place in Israel this year."
The Stones are just the latest stars to announce shows in Israel in 2014. Already on the roster are international pop superstar Justin Timberlake for May 28, the Pixies for June 17 and Neil Young and his band Crazy Horse for July 17.
“Ah, Jerusalem!” will be performed every Friday afternoon from April 18 through Sept. 5. It is based on the story of an American family who travels to Jerusalem for a spiritual journey of a lifetime.
"We are thrilled this exciting new theater production is highlighting a selection of Jerusalem's historic sites, which will provide some additional excitement for travelers traveling to my hometown this year," Gutim said.
“Ah, Jerusalem!” will be performed in the open-air courtyard of the Tower of David Museum, a historic site boasting a First Temple-period quarry, historic walls and ruins dating back to the Hasmonean and Ottoman rule of Jerusalem. The Tower of David Museum is located inside the Jaffa Gate entrance to the Old City of Jerusalem.
