All About Steve (PG-13)

Starring: Sandra Bullock, Bradley Cooper, Thomas Haden Church

Director Phill Traill

Running Time: 98 minutes

Most people experience the awkward end of first date front porch scenario where you do not know whether it should be ended with a kiss, a hug, or a cold goodbye. For Mary Horowitz (Sandra Bullock) and Steve (Bradley Cooper) the date ends before they leave the driveway, but with the uncomfortable make-out scene.

Mary is a cruciverbalist, a crossword puzzle constructer, and knows something about everything, while Steve is a cameraman for a newschannel. Their parents set them up on a blind date, and Mary is so aggressive that she scares Steve away. He tells her that he needs to leave for an assignment and that he wishes she could go, but she has to work. Mary thinks the date was a success and creates a crossword puzzle "All About Steve" and even includes a question about the flavor of Steve's lips: mint explosion.

Mary gets an epiphany that she is suppose to follow Steve on the road and starts her journey. Along the way she meets many people some who get annoyed with her, and others who see her for who she really is and they fall in love with her. During this time Steve wears disguises and does everything he can to avoid Mary, while the news reporter Hartman Hughes (Thomas Haden Church) eggs Mary on. LIke most movies that use a character's journey as a methaphor for change, many of the characters in 'Steve' go through a change and learn something new about themselves, and the changes are surprising. Steve comes to the realization that he likes Mary and it's ok not to be normal, while Hartman starts to care about other people.

All About Steve is fresh, funny, and heartwarming all in one. While some of the characters are a little absurd and over the top, we all know someone like that.
