There is still a lot to learn about genetically modified foods and produce. It has been suggested in studies that genetically modified foods consumed by humans can increase and cause food allergies as well as some diseases. Being able to identify produce will give you the upper hand; avoiding purchasing fruits and vegetables that are genetically modified and safer for your family.
To detect produce that has been genetically modified all you have to do is read the PLU code on the sticker attached to fruits and vegetables. Produce that everyone has been purchasing for years can be identified with its 4-digit code number that begins with the numbers 3 and 4. Organic produce has a 5-digit number that begins with 9. All genetically modified produce has a 5-digit number that begins with an 8.
So if you are purchasing a zucchini to prepare for dinner check the sticker on the vegetable before placing it in your shopping cart. A genetically modified zucchini will have a sticker code of 84067 on it so you know it is one you should avoid. It is easy to identify genetically modified produce if you know where to look and read the stickers placed on them.
Eat healthy and avoid genetically modified produce!
