When anyone mentions Thanksgiving, the item most people think of is the turkey. This craft can be created by all aged children and can take on many different functions.
Suggested uses:
- Paperweight
- Name tags for seating at Thanksgiving dinner
- Thanksgiving present for guests
- Keepsake of your child's second (or third, or fourth...) Thanksgiving
Materials needed:
- Clay (we used Crayola Air Dry clay, but Play Doh would work too)
- Turkey cookie cutter
- Watercolor paint and paint brush
- Toothpick or Popsicle stick (optional, if using for name tags)
- Felt (optional, if using for a paperweight)
How to make:
- Roll out clay so that it is a little larger than the cookie cutter. Keep about 1/4 inch thick to keep it from breaking when dry. If you're using the Crayola Air Dry clay, add a little bit of water to make it easier to mold.
- Push cookie cutter into clay to form turkey shape.
- Cut around edges of cookie cutter to remove extra clay. Then remove cookie cutter.
- Set clay turkey aside to dry. NOTE: This may take up to a day, depending on the type of clay used, the humidity in your house and the thickness of the turkey.
- Once the clay is dry, use watercolor paints to decorate the turkey. Set aside to dry
- Attach felt to the bottom to keep the table from getting scratched. (optional)
- Glue toothpick or Popsicle stick to the back if using as a name tag (optional).
