For those of us who have to wait 13 more days for the season premiere of “Boardwalk Empire,” there is some good news. An Aug. 25 review from Bloomberg gave the new season five stars, which means it’s “fantastic” by their rating.
Warning: There are some spoilers about the third season in the review. Read at your own risk.
Greg Evans, the author of the article, doesn’t say exactly how many episodes he watched, but he gave praise to a lot of the characters, including newcomer Dr. Valentin Narcisse (Jeffrey Wright). Evans called Wright “note-perfect” and “a standout among the other fine newcomers.” He also says that Bobby Cannavale’s character from last season, Gyp Rosetti, gets no time of “mourning” during season four. As fans recall, Gyp was killed in the final episode of season three, which Evans called “dismal” and “convoluted.”
Evans also said that season four gives more screen time to Eddie Kessler (Anthony Laciura), Nucky’s assistant, and Al Capone (Stephen Graham). Evans called Graham’s portrayal of the mob boss “among TV’s best performances.”
“Boardwalk Empire” returns to HBO on Sept. 8 at 9 p.m.
