An antique market set in downtown Chicago

Antique markets can be a lot of fun; rummaging around table after table of old lamps, advertisements, jewelry and tools brings back a lot of fond memories for many people. The problem for those of us living in downtown Chicago is that it usually involves either driving way out into the country often spending hours in traffic, not to mention a small fortune in gas, or looking around expensive River North antique stores.

Luckily there is a once-a-month option in Chicago called the Randolph Street Market. This monthly event offers dozens of vendors selling quality antiques, clothing, furniture, collectables as well as food and much more. It is not a flea market so there will not be bags of socks for $1 or used toys. What there will be are lots and lots of fun furniture. There are artists who create great pieces of furniture using old repurposed wooden warehouse carts set atop of handmade metal bases and artists who create furniture made out of old wine and whiskey barrels. There are dozens of vendors outside in tents selling smaller antiques ranging from chairs to clothing to tableware.

Inside there are dozens of vendors selling smaller antiques as well as artists selling newly created pieces of art and food artisans offering delicious food options. There will be everything from old collectable posters to sets of dishes to scarves and chocolates and small batch bread.

The market also features several food vendors that can be found inside and out. An excellent variety of food options make it possible to take a lunch break while shopping or enjoy a snack while at the market or purchase something to take home.

Admission is $10 at the door or $8 in advance on their website. The Randolph Street Market is once a month on a Saturday and Sunday from 9:00 a.m. - 5 a.m. There is free on site parking and a free shuttle from Water Tower.
