An "antioxi-cating" evening with VeeV Spirits

By now you've probably heard about the super-antioxidant açai berry (pronounced ah-SIGH-ee), hailed by health nuts around the world. What you may not have heard of is the new açai liqueur, VeeV. Well, consider this your introduction.

I had my introduction Saturday night at the Ruby Tuesday in East Point with one of the co-founders, Courtney Reum. Courtney has been traveling across the country in his VeeV-wrapped Prius, spreading the word about this special spirit one Ruby Tuesday at a time. The goal? Travel to 100 Ruby Tuesday locations in 10 days. A tight schedule, to say the least.

Courtney was fresh off the recording of Atlanta's own Chef and the Fatman with hosts Executive Chef Fred Genovese and Kevin Jenkins (episode to air Saturday, July 2nd from 2-4pm on Atlanta's News Talk 1160), where he shared VeeV Açai Spirit tips and pairings. I joined him and fellow Examiner and blogger Shawanda Mason later that evening to sample some of these superfruit gems and learn more about the VeeV company and message.

Turns out, VeeV aims to be the first Green liquor company ... the energy efficient distillers are powered by renewable wind energy and they are the industry's first certified carbon neutral company. I love going Green, and especially when it tastes so good! I sampled three of the new Açai drinks now served at Ruby Tuesdays restaurants across the country — the Pomegranite Martini, Skinny Pink Lemonade, and Superfruit Cooler (with fresh slices of cucumber!) — all fantastic. Courtney then happily obliged when I asked to taste the spirit on its own, which was equally delicious.

Inspired to make my own super-antioxidant drink, I created this concoction with my hotel-sized bottle of VeeV. The recipe is for 1 oz of liquor, but feel free to make it stronger as you wish (I used what I had for 2 drinks). I hope you find it as refreshing as I did!

Açai Antioxi-cation

  • 1 oz Veev Açai Spirit

  • 4 oz (1/2 cup) cranberry pomegranate juice

  • Juice of 1/2 lemon

  • Juice from 1/2 tsp grated ginger

Directions
Peel a 1-inch section of ginger and grate it finely with porcelain ginger grater. Measure liquor, cranberry pomegranate juice, and juice from 1/2 lemon into double old fashioned glass. With clean hands, squeeze the juice from the grated ginger into the glass. Mix and add ice. Garnish with lemon peel.
