On a recent cold and snowy night, Dallas Animal Services officer Amy Carlile went to great lengths to rescue a dog in a tough predicament. Alerted by some teenagers who had heard him howling for days, Amy arrived shortly after dark to find the poor dog trapped on a 20-foot embankment along a river bed in South Dallas, drinking the melting snow to survive and keeping dry underneath a rock overhang. It was far from easy, but with a lot of hard work and determination, Amy managed to get him to safety. Camo, as he is now known, realizing he was finally being rescued, leaned his sweet little face against her chest as if to say "thank you".
So now Amy is on a mission to save this dog once again from an uncertain fate, this time at the Dallas shelter where she works. According to Amy, "If there's ANYTHING that can be done [to find Camo a home] I would be eternally grateful. I know there are more adoptable dogs in our shelter, and the reality of the situation is quite clear. However, I am a firm believer that occasionally we can save the lone ‘underdog’.”

A great article and wonderful story. Camo deserves a good home.
This one is a tear-jerker! I hope Camo finds a great, forever home. Please keep us updated on this one!!
Amy is a wonderful Animal Control Officer. I am proud to call her my co-worker and my Friend. Hopefully Camo will find a home.
Thank you so very much, Rebecca, for printing this story. Also, I want to give my thanks to everyone that helped that night, including the young girl and boy that helped me in my blind quest to find this fellow. I know in my heart Camo, so-called because he was "camouflaged" against the rocks, will find his Forever Home.
It's now March 15th, I was just wondering if a rescue group will be fostering Camo? Thanks!
Word is that camo is out of DAS and into a foster home as of last night. Details to come...
Yay for Camo! I'm so happy he is out of the shelter and into a more suitable environment. However, I do miss our late night walks and chats. He is one of few dogs that "smiles" when he's happy. As each day passed, Camo gained weight, and became more "puppy-like." I will miss him so much though!
