An angel to ease the pain

Waynesboro, GA - A word of warning, the following story will hurt your heart.

Though you may believe that the words are too painful to bear, think for a moment of this dog's pain.

He did not endure tragic words, he endured the worst of humanity.

In the early morning hours of September 16, animal control officer Desiree Bissell was called out on a cruelty case.

What she found hurt her heart.

A young dog, barely past the puppy stage, blind and being eaten alive by ants.

His body was destroyed by untreated mange, he was tethered to a tree without food, water or shelter.

He had no way to escape the ants who were eating him alive.

Officer Bissell removed the young dog from his living hell.

She gently bathed his devastated body in warm water, provided him with Benadryl for the burning wounds caused by the ants and offered him food and water.

Though the abused dog no longer had eyes, he could sense the compassion emanating  from his angel of mercy.

With what was left of his tail, he offered his wag of thanks for her kindness.

When a vet clinic opened the next morning Officer Bissell transported the dog with the body ravaged by a lifetime of neglect.

Here, this dog who had never known the love that he craved - the dog who was denied the very basics required for life - was gently released from his pain forever.

The veterinarian who administered the fatal injection told Officer Bissell that this was the worst case of abuse that she had ever seen.

There is no request for donations in this tragic tale. There are no letters to write.

The only request is your continued awareness to the plight of the voiceless who are being neglected and abused.

As well as a moment of silence for a life which was devastated by cruel neglect.

Continue to fight for these lives.

We will never understand why there are people who treat our companion animals in such a horrific manner.

Those who have compassion in their heart are not meant to understand - but we can fight for those who are still alive.

Rest in peace to this young life who never knew the love that he craved - and the compassion which he deserved.
