An insight into the life of the talented performer Kate Petersen.
How did you get into performing and what age were you?
Ever since I was little I’ve loved performing. I used to sing and dance and do gymnastics for my family all the time. I started performing in the circus when I was 12.
What was the entertainment scene like in Australia?
Australia has very little shows and opportunities for performers in the entertainment industry so I had to work extra hard to get the jobs and contracts that I did. The trick is to gain as much experience and different skill sets as possible to make yourself unique.
What type of training have you done?
I have trained in gymnastics, circus, ice-skating, fire twirling, acting, stunts, springboard diving, horse riding, dancing and sports acrobatics.
Who were some of your inspirations growing up?
My main inspiration is my best friend Michelle who has done some of the biggest circus shows in the world and she started doing gymnastics with me at a young age. My mum is also a big inspiration because she’s so strong and she supports me through all of my career choices.
What brought you to the US?
I came to the US a few months ago to network and train as much as possible. I met with several people and within a few months I was offered numerous jobs.
What would be your ultimate gig?
Disney on Ice or Universal Studios Water world Show. Both of these shows are amazing and I would love to eventually be part of either production.
What has been the highlight of your career so far?
When I was in America I got offered a job in China doing the worlds largest water stunt show. I took it in a heartbeat and it has been my biggest highlight so far.
What would be your advice to aspiring performers?
No matter how hard things get, always keep on fighting. Any dream is achievable if you are willing to put in the hard work towards it. Don’t ever give up!
