Railroad enthusiasts have the rare chance to experience an all-day rail excursion that will travel through numerous towns (and offer some great choices for sightseeing) when they sign up for the Orrville Railroad Heritage Society's Orrville Spring Flyer trip on Saturday, April 26.
Orville Spring Flyer Excursion Presented in cooperation with the Wheeling & Lake Erie Railroad, this 120 mile round trip adventure through Northeast Ohio departs from Orrville, Ohio at 9 a.m. The train will proceed northwest through Smithville, Creston, Lodi and Spencer where the train will then head east through Medina and Copley and finally arrive for an afternoon stop at Akron Northside District where passengers will then enjoy a 3 hour layover that includes lunch and visiting downtown Akron attractions.
On the return trip the train will travel through Mogadore, Hartville, Canton, Navarre and finally arrive back in Orrville around 6:30 p.m.
On the train ride, passengers will be entertained by Keepsake, a female musical trio who will be singing a wide variety of music styles including gospel, country, show tunes, patriotic songs and songs from the '50's.
During the 3 hour layover, passengers will have the option of several activities including a visit to the Akron Glass Works Hot Glass Studio and the Zeber-Martell Gallery & Clay Studio. The Akron Trolley will also be available to take passengers to nearby attractions like the Cascade Locks Park and the Akron Art Museum.
An optional lunch from Luigi's Italian Restaurant (consisting of 2 slices of pizza, a salad and a non-alcoholic drink) is included with a First Class ticket. The lunch will also be offered for an additional $10 fee to all Premium Coach and Coach passengers. You must purchase your lunch when you buy your train excursion ticket.
Cost of the Spring Flyer train excursion is $109 for Coach, $129 for Premium Coach and $209 for a First Class seat. Remember there is an additional $10 charge for some passengers if you want lunch. The deadline for purchasing tickets with lunch included is Sunday, April 20. Deadline for the purchase of excursion- only tickets is Friday, April 25.
The ORHS concession car will also be offering beverages and snack foods for purchase.
Passengers will be boarding the train at 245 McGill Street in Orrville. Boarding will begin 30 minutes before departure and it is highly recommended that you arrive at least 30 minutes before departure.
