Fade to 'Black.'
Grammy winner Amy Winehouse has been found dead in her London home today. She was 27.
Winehouse shot to the top of the charts with her album "Back to Black," with hits "Rehab," "Valerie" and "Me and Mr. Jones" among others in 2007, four short years ago. Her first album, "Frank" was released when she was just 20.
A statement by police was released soon after rumors began to circulate about an ambulance that had been called to her well-known address.
"Police were called by London Ambulance Service to an address in Camden Square NW1 shortly before 16.05hrs today, Saturday 23 July, following reports of a woman found deceased," the Daily Mail reported of the statement. The United Kingdom paper has followed Winehouse through her many ups and downs. The statment continues..."On arrival officers found the body of a 27-year-old female who was pronounced dead at the scene. Inquiries continue into the circumstances of the death. At this early stage it is being treated as unexplained."
Allegedly, the singer had cancelled many upcoming performances, enough to get attention from fans and critics, both parties hoping for the same thing, that Winehouse get the rest and assistance that she needed to keep her healthy and in shape. Winehouse's father, Mitch, has been a key figure in assisting her with her sobriety. He is currently not in London, U.K. newpapers report.
Her tumultous relationship with Blake Fielder-Civil ended in divorce in 2009. Last year, after a stint in his own rehab, Fielder-Civil discussed watching her almost die and was worried about her dying before her time.
While it has been widely reported that Winehouse struggled with sobriety, this news has shocked the music world. She will be missed.
