On April 27, Ellen DeGeneres revealed details about her first full week of shows during the all-important May sweeps rating period. She announced via her weekly newsletter, which was posted on Friday and sent to fans on Sunday, that Amy Purdy and her professional partner, Derek Hough from “Dancing with the Stars” will both appear on her show this week. Ellen called Amy one of the most inspiring “DWTS” contestants ever.

In addition to talking to Ellen about her incredible story, Amy Purdy will also dance with Derek Hough. Considered one of the frontrunners to win season 18, Purdy performed a jive last week to “Shout” and landed in second place with a score of 38. Following their routine, a proud Derek Hough posted on Twitter, “We got a little tripped up with the feet. But dang Amy, you killed that jive. Truly outstanding!!!” To watch Amy's jive, head to this YouTube link.

It will be a busy week for the dancing duo. In addition to appearing on Ellen’s show, the two must perform two dances on Monday: one Latin individual routine, plus a Latin-inspired team dance. As posted by the Daily Mail, Purdy is excited about her new routines.

Last week, Drew Carey was eliminated from the competition. Previously eliminated stars from season 18 include Diana Nyad, Sean Avery, Billy Dee Williams, and Cody Simpson. Drew’s partner, Cheryl Burke, predicted that the “DWTS” finals will pit Meryl Davis against Amy Purdy, according to Wetpaint. “It’s going to be really tight between them,” Burke stated.

Inspirational Amy Purdy had a typical childhood until losing her legs at 19 as a result of Meningitis, which led to an adulthood of extraordinary accomplishments. She competed in the 2014 Paralympics in Sochi, is the top ranked adaptive snowboarder in the U.S., and a three-time World Cup Para-snowboard winner. Purdy is the Co-Founder of Adaptive Action Sports, a non-profit organization that helps disabled youth, adults and wounded veterans get involved in action sports.

Derek Hough has competed on “Dancing with the Stars” since 2007. He is the only pro to win four mirror ball trophies (with partners Jennifer Grey, Shawn Johnson, Kellie Pickler, and Amber Riley).

To see Amy Purdy and Derek Hough on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show,” be sure to tune in on Monday, April 28. To see them perform during Latin Week on “DWTS,” tune in to ABC at 8 p.m. EST later that day.

As revealed on MediaNet, the finale of “DWTS” is a 2-night event that includes the final performances on Monday, May 19, to be followed by a two-hour results show on Tuesday when a new mirror ball winner will be crowned. Could it be Amy Purdy?
