SPEED TV provided next day coverage of the Baltimore round of the AMSOIL Arenacross series on Sunday January 13, 2013 but they could only show some of the great racing. They highlighted Friday's main events and Saturday's heat races but their focus was on the two main events Saturday. This is great coverage but there was so much more to the 2013 Baltimore round of AMSOIL Arenacross.
One of the crowd favorites is the head-to-head bracket racing as well as the AX Lites' heat races and their main event. However, there is only one main event for the AX Lites' riders.
Then they introduced the stars of the future by having the 50cc 4-8 year old class round their main event during the night program as well as the Super-mini 9-15 year old class. And some of those kids are already impressively fast for only being on 85cc motorcycles.
There is also the T-shirt cannon where they shoot free T-shirts into the crowd. And the fans go crazy for this. That's because the louder and crazier your section is determines where they will fire off the next free T-shirt. And the Baltimore fans have lots of energy and enthusiasm which made it difficult to choose which section to fire off the T-shirts toward.
Then there is the mechanics challenge. This is also a fan favorite because there is fan participation. They randomly select 4 kids from 4 opposite sections of the arena and pair them up with the mechanics of the top two finishers in the AX heat races. The four kids get MX handlebars and have a short foot race starting at the drop of the gate and finishing at the top of the landing of the finish line catapult. This is where the mechanics take the handlebars and mount them on a stand they have up there with them. The mechanic who mounts the handlebars upright first wins a prize for the lucky kid who was paired up with him. The mechanic get bragging rights in the pits until the next round where four more lucky fans get to take part in the mechanics challenge at there home arena.
Of course the AX Lites main and AX Heat races as well as the two AX main events bring the excitement to the crowd as you saw if watched the SPEED TV's coverage of the race.
