Directed by Michael Haneke (“Cache,” “The White Ribbon”), “Amour” tells the story of two former musical teachers enjoying the retirement life in a comfortable apartment. After Anne (Emmanuelle Riva) suffers a stroke that leaves her partially paralyzed, Georges (Jean-Louis Trintignant) becomes her full-time caretaker. As Georges begins to struggle with the task, a visit from the couple’s daughter, Eva (Isabelle Huppert) reaffirms how secluded from society they have become in since retiring.
“Amour” is nominated for Best Picture; Best Director; Best Actress (Riva); Best Foreign Film; and Best Original Screenplay at this year's Academy Awards.
The Pageant Theatre is located at 351 East 6th Street in Chico.
