On Tuesday, December 15, Rep. Luis V. Gutierrez (D-IL) will introduce new legislation, the Comprehensive Immigration Reform for America's Security and Prosperity Act of 2009, to the U.S. House of Representatives. Gutierrez will have the support of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus.
An estimated 15-20 million illegal immigrants will grab the golden ticket enabling them to come out of the shadows and become American citizens. The immigration reform legislation comes at a time when the country faces 10 percent unemployment and bankrupt states from coast to coast.
This overly ambitious Congress has passed a plethora of bills despite stubborn recession that continues to put a grip the U.S. economy. Here is a sampling of programs House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) has passed just this year; $700 billion financial bank bailout, $787 billion stimulus, $1.5 trillion health care expansion, $200 billion doctor fix, $800 billion cap and trade and a $250 billion omnibus spending bill.
This spendingpalooza is over and above the Iraq/Afghanistan war and yearly federal government budget spending obligations. Where’s the money coming from?
Nevertheless, Congress will tackle immigration reform during the worst recession in 25 years and which is expected to add an additional burden to American families.
“We have waited patiently for a workable solution to our immigration crisis to be taken up by this Congress and our President,” said Rep. Gutierrez. “The time for waiting is over. This bill will be presented before Congress recesses for the holidays so that there is no excuse for inaction in the New Year. It is the product of months of collaboration with civil rights advocates, labor organizations, and members of Congress.”
Gutierrez believes this bill is the answer to many years of pain —“mothers separated from their children, workers exploited and undermined security at the border— all caused at the hands of a broken immigration system. This bill says 'enough,' and presents a solution to our broken system that we as a nation of immigrants can be proud of.”
The immigration bill is expected to meet with fierce opposition from anti-illegal immigration groups, tea party groups, lawmakers as well as many ordinary Americans who are struggling to make a living in these tough economic times.

What about all those people who came here legally and followed the law and are stuck in line for decades. Why can't they first help those people whose life is in a limbo. There are around half a million people from LEGAL (not illegal) employment based category stuck and willing to buy houses and invest in the economy if they get freed from the broken immigration system. But no one wants to help them. I do not understand what the hell is going on?
Shame on ethnocentric Gutierrez for pushing a mass amnesty bill for 20 million illegal alien lawbreakers when unemployment is at a 26-year high and over 15 million Americans are desperately looking for work.

Hold on a minute. If none of the details of the bill will be made public until December 15, how do you know it is an "amnesty bill"? Do you have any actual evidence, or are you intentionally trying to mislead us? After all, Gutierrez is a Democrat, and it is Big Business and the wealthy elite that want to maintain the inflow of cheap $4 an hour labor.

Gutierrez has already outlined the basic components of his bill, which calls for a "path to citizenship" etc. which (as those of us who follow this issue closely know) is a euphemism for mass amnesty, just as "comprehensive immigration reform" is.
This is the same type of "comprehensive" reform that was peddled to us during the 1986 IRCA "comprehensive" reform (with supposed "tough" conditions) that, by the way, was supposed to be a one-time event.
Furthermore, research Gutirrez's previous "STRIVE" Act amnesty legislation to understand this guy's anti-American worker history.
And the Democrats want illegals turned into citizens for votes.
We need fair and humane Reform NOW! Stop the hate mongering.
The only "reform" needed is to finally enforce our existing immigration laws, as was promised 23 years ago!

What's wrong with hating foreign lawbreakers and criminals who are currently in our country? Another amnesty would not be fair to American citizens. What we really need is comprehensive border security reform. Hire another 25,000 border patrol agents, finish building the wall, and then round up and deport every last illegal alien from our country.
I don't understand their mentality. For one they are here illegally. But guess what Amendment 18 says babies born to illegals are not automatically American citizens to begin with. It has been misinterpreted for a long time, obviously.

Oh, I forgot there are 38 million illegals now in the US. Most of these families have 5 or 6 children each which we pay for their births which is about $250,000.00 for starters. Used to be a construction worker or a service industry worker could make a living wage and support their family with dignity.
After the kennedy amnesty of 1986 these jobs were taken over by recently amnestied illegals who would work for less. The amnesty also encouraged more to come knowing that enforcement was not there. Wages in these industries were devalued and stagnated.
