Poet, novelist, essayist, translator, and scholar of Hebrew and Jewish literature of the Middle East Ammiel Alcalay will give a reading this Saturday afternoon from 1:00 to 3:00 PM at the Bowery Poetry Club located at 308 Bowery between Bleeker and Houston across the street from CBGBs. Alcalay's books include Memories of Our Future; the cairo notebooks; from the warring factions; Scrapmetal, and a novel, Islanders, recently published by City Lights. A Little History is forthcoming from FRDewey Books, and Neither wit nor gold; from Ugly Ducking Presse. Alcalay will share the program with beat poet and San Francisco Poet Laureate Diane di Prima.
Excerpts of Alcalay's past readings can be heard on his Penn Sound page; also of interest are an example of his verse and one of his translations on Woodland Pattern's website, and an interview with him on Loggernaut's website.
