Tonight's two-hour special episode of "Amish Mafia" was titled, "The Book of Merlin." Merlin is the head of the "Amish Mafia" in Holmes, Ohio.
Esther, the narrator of much of the series is the sister of John. John was working for Levi, the head of the "Amish Mafia" in Lancaster, Pa. Because Esther has goaded John into seeking what they believe is rightfully his; he became indebted to Merlin, the adversary of Levi.
John's father was the predecessor of Levi and ran the mafia in Lancaster. Although John is Old Order Amish, Levi did not trust him enough to give him transportation in the same way, Alvin and Jolin have. John has been riding a scooter and not even one with a motor. This series leave much to the imagination, because much of the happening is clandestine and cameras are not allowed to film them.
John has attempted to raise money behind Levi's back on three separate occasions. He had his sister, Esther dupe Levi into going on vacation with her, so he could throw a buggy race.
He also threw a hut party behind Levi's back. These parties are visited by both Amish and non-Amish teenagers, and they pay admission. There they drink alcohol and play games and watch television; much of the stuff they only get to do when out of their homes. At the party, a fight broke out and destroyed several items belonging to Levi, putting John deeper in debt.
His first transgression was to win a souped-up buggy contest where Merlin gave John money to add accessories to his buggy so that he would win. Just before John was sure he had the competition in his pocket; Merlin's cousin drove by with a motorized buggy that won the prize.
The last time, John ran a buggy race at Merlin's suggestion. Levi has banned buggy races because they are dangerous, and because he pays for medical bills when people cannot work. As a result, John lost that race and was deeper in debt to Merlin. Now John is in the middle of the war between Levi and Merlin.
Alvin was responsible while Levi was away with Esther. Many people came to Alvin with problems that to the Amish are important. A neighbor hanging her undergarments too close to their house had to be dealt with and mischievous children smashing mailboxes and invading their henhouse.
While in Florida, it was difficult for Esther to lead Merlin on. She really did not want to be with him, but he bought her clothes and paid for the trip. They had fun shopping, but she asked him what he expected from her.
She told him that she had two kids, and that she was raped by an Amish man when she was 14 years-old. She said it is not just her that she has to worry about. However, if Levi knows about all the goings-on in Lancaster; why does he not know about this, and where are these kids?
The promos for this program tell about a two-hour special coming in March, Esther and John are by themselves in an Amish home. Esther tells the camera that everyone is at war with each other, everyone hates each other, and they are fighting. She explains that they need someone else behind them. The headline reads; "Speak of the Devil; He Will Come." But who? Then the camera pans to Alan Beiler, who says that he does not know what the situation is. The headline again reads; "and he Will Come." She says about this mystery Amish person that he has the muscles, the guns, the temper, and they are not going to know what hit them. It is a shadow of a person wearing an Amish hat. Is there another Devil out there or is it Alan, who believes that Levi turned him into the authorities when he did four months in jail? Guess fans will be waiting until March.
The day of the buggy race comes. John tells that they charge admission and also take bets. John won the first race and had to go against the winner of the other heat. John lost the race, his self-esteem and more money to Merlin. Then after the first race, Alvin showed up with Jolin and Steve. Merlin did not let up on John telling him how much he owed him. Next, Steve proceeded to tip over John's buggy while Alvin starting hitting it with a baseball bat. Jolin subsequently threw a chain around it and dragged it down the road.
Back in Holmes, Ohio, Merlin realized that by John losing the race, he is even more indebted to him. Now he will recruit John to his side. When Levi returned from Florida, he was upset at John's actions. Levi saw what Wayne did to his windshield and was really angry and now wants revenge against Merlin. .
When Levi returned from Florida and found out about John's betrayal, he went to see Esther to see what she knew. She would not let the cameras inside her house. So she and Levi went in his car. She had not seen or heard from John since her return from Florida. Levi said he does not know where John is, but he knows that John is stealing from him. Levi took her to a quarry, where she saw John's buggy suspended by ropes. Upon their return, Levi's office was completely trashed. Now Levi has to find a new office.
John has been hiding in one of the huts, but now has to find a new place hiding from the wrath of Levi.
