Amish Friends Cookbook, Volume 2, by Wanda E. Brunstetter, Barbour Publishing, 2009, 224 Pages, ISBN-13: 978-1602603455, $14.97
In Amish Friends Cookbook, Volume 2, full-color photographs with interesting facts about Amish society, separate 200 recipes Brunstetter divided into ten sections. Sections include Breads and Rolls, Desserts, Main Dishes, Salads and Side, Jams and Jellies, among several others. A bonus miscellaneous section offers old-fashioned home remedies for cough syrup, earache and chest congestion, as well as how to make laundry soap.
With great delight, I found a recipe for "Russian Tea," submitted by Mrs. David Graber, Bloomfield, Iowa. I used to make large batches of this tea, but had forgotten the exact ingredients and amounts.
Rebecca Troyer, from Berne, Indiana, presented a White Chocolate Candy recipe that didn't require cooking. White chocolate is my husband's favorite. To say he was delighted with the results would be an understatement.
Betty Yoder's recipe for Fresh Fruit dip, made from cream cheese and marshmallow crème, left my guests asking for more.
Darlene Stouffer's simple recipe for Chicken Patties makes an excellent choice for guests who want to cut back on red meat.
A sampling of Amish sayings include, "If you insist on perfection, make the demands on yourself." "Success is when you get what you want. Happiness is when you want what you get." And I particularly liked this one: "An unsatisfied life means an unsurrendered will."
