Amir Khan lied and actually ‘never sparred’ with Andre Ward

According to an article published Saturday in Boxing Scene, Andre Ward denied ever hitting mediocre pugilist Amir Khan with “big shots” during a sparring session.

Khan (28-3, 19 KOs), Ward (27-0, 14 KOs) and Alfredo Angulo are all trained by Virgil Hunter.

Numerous media outlets have reported that Khan (28-3, 19 KOs) will scrap Floyd Mayweather (45-0, 26 KOs) on May 3.

“Angulo and Ward have hit me with big shots and I’ve stood in front and not gone down,” said Khan, 27, who became one of the most youthful British world champs ever at the age of 22.

“They carry 25 pounds over me and are big punchers. This is because I’m at my natural weight (of 147). It’s in the fans’ hands who they want to see me fight. If it’s not me against Mayweather, then good luck to whomever it is.”

“King Khan” most recently fought in April after outscoring Mexican Julio Diaz.

Flattened by a left hook in the fourth and staggered by the same punch in the eighth, 10th and 11th rounds, Khan was lucky to escape without losing to the 33-year old Diaz (40-9-1, 29 KOs).

Ultimately, “King Khan” is simply an overrated chandelier.

In stark contrast to Khan, Ward is the sport’s second premier pound-for-pounder and a budding legend.

Ward last exited the squared circle on November 16 after outclassing Edwin Rodríguez to easily safeguard The Ring and WBA super middleweight belts.

Using elite footwork, a brilliant jab, and ferocious left hook, Ward dominated Rodríguez and absorbed virtually no punishment over 36 minutes.

“Me and Khan never sparred. Yea, didn’t read what he said,” said Ward, 29, who was named the 2011 Ring Magazine Fighter of the Year. “But, we’ve never been in the ring together.”

A gold medalist as a light heavyweight at the 2004 Games in Athens, Ward is a brilliant tactician who hasn’t been conquered since he was a 12-year-old amateur.

Obviously a lying bloke, Amir Khan would need far more than “good luck to” survive throwing fists with Andre Ward.
