22-year-old Zinah Jennings, the mother of missing South Carolina tot Amir Jennings has now retained the services of a criminal defense lawyer. Jennings has been in jail since late December, after lying to police about the whereabouts of her missing son.
Zinah’s family last saw her and Amir, Thanksgiving. Zinah was arrested November 9th in Atlanta, GA for prostitution. She was later involved in a car accident in Columbia, South Carolina. Officers questioned her about missing son and she told them conflicting stories that he was in Atlanta, and in North Carolina. She is currently behind bars, and is not cooperating.
According to 11 Alive attorney Hemphill Pride is now representing Jennings, who is now being evaluated at a psychiatric hospital. This could be the start of a mental illness defense. Relatives of Zinah Jennings have stated that she suffered from depression after the birth of her son.
